失望（一）

The dress felt like a flowing waterfall against my skin as I slid it on, cool and smooth against my feverish skin. My heart hammered in my ears in an excited rhythm, and as I threw a glance at the girl in the mirror in front of me, I wiped off the sweat off my palms, breathing heavily.

The girl in the mirror had never worn a dress before that night, and she was confident that night would be a night to remember; the greatest night in her life. As I yanked my brush through my tangled hair, I held my trusty brush to my lips and imagined how thrilling and magical it would be to sing my heart out in front of a huge audience. Everyone always loved to gush about how pretty my voice was, and I knew I would enrapture them with my solo performance in the school theatre later, my mother included.
